05/07/20 UPDATE: It is with a heavy heart we report that all Summer@CMDS June camps – including all enrichment camps – have been cancelled. The CMDS Board of Trustees and administrative team came to this decision based on the current national and state-wide effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, along with diligent consideration of CDC and Tennessee Department of Education guidelines. We are heartbroken, but we know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today. We are hopeful to hold day camp in July and are planning for that outcome. However, we will offer first priority for a limited number of July spaces to current and incoming CMDS students. We sincerely appreciate your continued support, and we wish you and everyone around you health and safety during these challenging times.

Summer@CMDS offers nine fun-filled weeks of Day Camp with optional extended care for boys and girls entering pre-kindergarten through seventh grade.

Our dedicated and experienced instructors are committed to creating a loving and nurturing environment for every child. We explore a different theme each week, and have action-packed days filled with water play, arts & crafts, group games, and much more! In addition to day camp, we also offer an amazing lineup of enrichment classes. Catch up on summer reading, conduct science experiments, make stop motion animated movies, or learn how to be a pirate! No matter what your needs, Summer@CMDS is designed to creatively meet the needs of all campers.

Policies

Dress

Campers should wear comfortable and appropriate clothes each day. For safety reasons, no flip-flops, Crocs, or other shoes that slip off the heel should be worn.

Sandals with a back are allowed but don’t work well for gym and field activities. We recommend campers wear water shoes each day. Some examples: Keen, Native, Crocs with a strap, Chaco or similar styles.

Discipline Policy

It is expected that every student attending Summer@CMDS follow Christ Methodist Day School’s procedures and standards of behavior. Consideration of others in thought and action is expected. Summer@CMDS reserves the right to require the withdrawal of any student who poses as a discipline problem or a disruption to the learning process. No refunds will be issued for students who are asked to withdraw.

Extended Care

Extended care is available to registered Summer@CMDS campers from 7:30-9:00 a.m. and/or 3:00-5:30 p.m.

Late Pick-Up Policy

Students should arrive on time and be picked up promptly at the end of each class or camp. For the safety and security of all participants, students remaining on campus after class or camp, will be escorted to Extended Care. Parents will be charged the $35 per week extended after care fee. An additional charge of $20 will be assessed for all campers remaining on campus past 5:30 pm for the first 10 minutes. After 5:40 pm, the charge will increase to an additional $5 per minute.  Late pick up fees will be invoiced online at the end of the week.

Lunch

Campers should bring a balanced sack lunch that doesn’t require heating or refrigeration. If we have a special lunch, advance notice will be given. Each Thursday, we will order pizza for those who sign up for Pizza Thursday through UltraCamp. For $5, your child will receive pizza, a fruit cup and a juice box.

Personal Items

Summer@CMDS is not responsible for lost property. All personal items, including clothing, should be in a bag and clearly marked with the student’s name. Students should not bring valuable items.

Pick-Up Authorization

Only authorized adults designated on the UltraCamp account will be allowed to pick up children from Summer@CMDS. It is the parents’ responsibility to notify the Summer@CMDS director of any dismissal change. The authorized adult to whom the child is being released must show proof of identification.

Refund Policy

Day Camp and Enrichment Camp fees are refunded in full when the session is at capacity or is canceled by Summer@CMDS. Except in extenuating circumstances which must be disclosed to the Summer@CMDS office prior to the start of an activity, refunds will not be given after a session begins. In such event, a refund will be processed through UltraCamp. A request for withdrawal occurring at least five (5) business days prior to the first session/class meeting will result in a refund/credit of fees. A $50 fee may be added for multiple schedule changes after the deadline. Also, we are unable to prorate camp fees for any missed camp days.

Toilet-Training Policy

Rising JK and older campers – as well as rising PK campers attending Enrichment Camps – must be able to abide by the policy below. The definition for a fully toilet-trained camper is that he or she is capable and independent to do the following:

  • A child should be able to use the toilet independently, remove and replace clothing for bathroom use and wash hands after using the restroom, all with minimal help from the teachers.

  • He or she should be in underwear for the entire camp day, including rest time.

All campers should bring a full change of clothes each day because we recognize that occasional accidents may occur. Messy play can also be a factor in needing a change of clothes. If a child has multiple accidents or should need a more thorough cleaning, parents will be called to come and take the child home for the remainder of the day. Summer@CMDS requires an action plan, agreed upon by the director and the parents, for campers who have repeated accidents.

Enrichment Camps

A full description of each enrichment camp, including fee information, can be found in our annual Summer@CMDS catalog (published in February). Payment for Enrichment Camps is scheduled on or before the first day of camp.

*Rising PK students do not have to be potty trained to attend Day Camp. However, they must be potty trained to attend Summer@CMDS Enrichment Camps.
