Christ Methodist Guardians

All youth sports programs, which are organized through Christ Church Athletics, are Christ-centered with a strong emphasis on honoring and glorifying God. Our coaches teach Christian values through sports, motivation, discipline, purpose, self-control, honesty and teamwork. We are proud of the way our students conduct themselves both on and off the field. Christ Methodist Athletics registration is available for all Memphis-area youth and is not restricted to CMDS students.

WHY THE GUARDIANS?

Guardians are loyal, steadfast and undaunted. They are keepers of the faith, of the flame, of the light, of the truth and of the cause. Guardians are the last line of defense. They don’t start fights; they finish them. Guardians have something worth protecting. It’s not about the fight, but what the fight is for.

Meet Gabe

He’s the OG around here, the Original Guardian. Gabe is a feisty lion who reps everything we love about the CMDS mission and our community. Fierce, loyal, fun-loving, courageous, humble and hard-working, Gabe is the persona our kids can rally to, cheer for and celebrate with.

Inspired by a story that spans both Testaments, we chose his name in honor of God’s angel Gabriel, his Messenger on Earth. He brings hope and Good News wherever he goes. He knows the power of the Truth in moments large and small. Steadfast and faithful, even in times of uncertainty, Gabe’s presence is a constant reminder of God’s plan for us.

When you show great sportsmanship, when you dive for the loose ball, when you help somebody off the ground, when you practice harder than you knew you could, when you lift up a teammate, when you celebrate together, when you lose with grace and win with class, when you stay after practice to make sure somebody’s got a ride home… You are being a messenger of God, a hero for the Word. Your life, played to the fullest, is His message. So play it loud!

Winter Sports (Registration in September)

BASKETBALL

The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-grade teams will play an 8-game schedule in ESCRA with other churches and schools, divided by grade if numbers allow, with practices starting in early November.

4th-grade players are placed based on evaluations: an "advanced" team plays in an older group with a 10-foot goal, focusing on shooting techniques, while other 4th graders play in their age group on an 8.5-foot goal, either by grade level or in a combined 3rd/4th-grade division.

For 5th and 6th grades, "Varsity" teams for each grade and combo teams will compete in a more competitive division, without a play requirement, to foster skill, confidence, and growth. Team placement depends on evaluations, and "Varsity" players must attend the school or be active in the church ministry. For questions, contact Christ Church Athletics Director, Brian Maness.

JK and SK Mini Jammers season runs from January to March 1st, with two “Drills and Skills” sessions and four games on Friday nights (JK at 4:45 pm, SK at 5:45 pm).

CHEER

SK-2nd Grade
New this year, we are offering Cheer for Basketball season! Cheerleaders will have 1-2 practices per week and cheer at games on Saturdays.
