Be sure to name your file! Remember in tinkercad, the numbers represent millimeters. So, 20mm = 2 cm. Use a ruler to help you determine the size of your item.

Email me when you are ready to print. I will email you with instructions for how to pick up when your item is printed.

Let's make a sundial as part of our Shadow unit in STEAM! On a sunny and not too windy day, find a spot that is free of foot traffic, bike traffic, dog traffic and car traffic. Trust me, I went wrong in ALL these ways!

Materials:

  • pencil and playdough (to make a gnomone)

  • pebbles

  • sharpie

  • straight stick

Please watch the video for more specific directions. I also added some things we have been building at our house. Some of you have emailed me things you have been building. Please continue to share with me!

CMDS students Samantha and Sophie Kay wanted to share these amazing resources!

"Pixar in a Box"

All you need for this challenge is your computer or an iPad to complete real-life film challenges. Samantha says, "Pixar in a Box brings my imagination to life!" The Cheairs boys loved animating the bouncing balls!

"Rockin' Roller Coaster”

Disney created this roller coaster. First, watch the video about the science and engineering behind the Rockin' Roller Coaster. Then follow the directions to build your own roller coaster using magnets, a small car and books! It’s all available HERE on the Disney Parks Blog.

Thank you, Samantha and Sophie Kay, for these great ideas for this week’s E-Lab lesson!

Playdough Marble Mazes

Playdough, cookie sheet, marble

Use the playdough you made in art to build a marble maze. Try to make the marble travel as slowly as possible through your maze!

Other materials you can use to build mazes:

  • LEGOs and a base plate (See second photo below!)

  • KEVA blocks (If you have a hex bug, let it try to find it's way out!)

  • Paper towel rolls and painters tape. (You can build on a piece of cardboard or on your wall.)

Hello! I sure do miss seeing everyone! I hope you have a wonderful Easter! The Ladybug Breakout link below is just like the breakouts we have done in class. Make it a group project and work with others in your home. Or, you can compete to see who escapes first!

Ladybug Breakout

We’ve put the answers at the bottom of the page, under the photos of the rocks, but do your best to make it through without looking!!

Also, this is a GREAT source of free things to do with things you have at home!!

We did this at our house and loved it! You can change the placement of the rocks for a new challenge. HAVE FUN!!! Please see the pics below! It makes the directions much easier to understand.

Materials:

  • Rocks and stones (You can use the ones gathered for Science Lab earlier this week.)

  • Ruler

Directions:

  1. Pick one rock and balance the ruler or paint stir stick across the center of it. Can you make it level?

  2. Grab another rock and place it on one end of the ruler.

  3. Now for the tricky part! Grab another rock of similar size to the last rock and try to balance it on the other end of the ruler.

  4. Try balancing rocks of different sizes by changing their placement on the ruler. Do heavier rocks need to go closer to the fulcrum or further away?

Save your rocks for Math Lab and Art!!
