Hey Discovery Lab Friends! I have missed seeing each of you! This is your last lesson of the year. I hope you enjoy it!
!First watch the SciShow Kids video "Fun with Bubbles!" This video is a good introduction on how bubbles are formed.
After watching the video, watch the bubbles lesson.
The bubble recipe that I used in the lesson: 3 cups of water, 1 cup dish soap, 1/2 cup of corn syrup. Mix all ingredients together. If you have glycerin on hand, you can substitute 1/2 cup of corn syrup for 1/2 cup glycerine. I think that you will have more success with an "unbreakable bubble" with glycerine. The corn syrup recipe makes large bubbles.

plant propagation
At the beginning of second semester we began a unit on plants. Today we are revisiting plants with a new lesson on plant propagation. Using plant cuttings we will grow new plants.
1) Watch the first 5 minutes of this video, "How to Grow Celery." It is a little long and the first 4-5 minutes covers the necessary material.
2) Watch my lesson video.
Have fun making new observations and discoveries! A lot of what we have grown in our home has been through trial and error. We ask questions and then test to see if the cutting will grow. If you have any questions, please email me.

Not A Stick
This week we are using our creative thinking and imagination to transform a stick!
First, watch the video lesson.
Then gather a few sticks from your yard. If this lesson were taught in the classroom, I would give the students a variety of materials (like the makerspace box) to allow students to modify their sticks. Makerspace materials are not necessary but an option of you have them handy.
In the book, the pig is constantly modifying his stick to fit in with his dramatic play. You don't have to physically change the stick. I love to see how you use your imagination!
If you would like to share photos, please email them to me!

Today we are having fun with parachutes while learning about drag!
1. Watch SciKids “Parachute Adventure” about how parachutes work.
2. Watch Ms. Pigg’s video about the lesson (see below).
Students can also hold a bag and run with it to feel the drag. I would to see your parachutes! If you would like to share photos with me, please email me.

Hey Discovery Lab Friends! I have missed seeing each of you! Don't worry, I have a lot of fun Discovery lessons that you can do at home!
This week we are going to focus on creating a makerspace at your home. Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering.
Watch the video below to see how I created a makerspace in my home.
I would love to see the things you create in your makerspace! Email me if you would like to share photos of your creations.
